Remember these Key Points when Marketing to Smartphone Users

Smartphones are Here to Stay!smartphone marketing

Smartphones are here to stay with nearly two-thirds of Americans owning one, according to the Pew Research Center. This makes it even more of a necessity for companies to ensure the tactics being used to market to smartphone users and digital presence are teed up to play in the mobile game. Smartphone usage has surpassed that of location, gender or age; no one is safe from its clutches. So if you think you’re audience isn’t accessing the web on their mobile phone, think again.

If you’re among the companies that don’t see an importance of making the switch over to a mobile friendly presence, it’s only a matter of time before the trend catches up to you. This storm is here to stay and will take out anyone in its path that hasn’t properly prepared themselves. To avoid being blown away by up-to-date competitors, check out four reasons why smartphone marketing is a must.

Four Reasons Why Marketing to Smartphone Users Matter

I know we’re making things sound bleak but we’re not kidding when we say mobile is here to stay. Here are four reasons why it’s important to have a strong presence among smartphone users:

  1. Global Smartphone Audience
Smartphones, although used by most of the American population, have been utilized around the world at a greater rate. Large mobile phone makers such as Apple and Android are pumping out smartphones for use around the world, while some countries such as Korean have access to new models years before they debut in America. Having access smartphones in any country, gives users instant web access to whatever they desire. Particularly in eCommerce. Goods can be purchased and delivered across the world with just a few clicks.
  1. More Smartphone, Less Desktop
We’re busybodies and because of this, we often find ourselves in front of our phone instead of a computer. And in a fast-paced world when the need for answers is immediate, we turn to our phones because they are already in our hand. However, businesses need to be mindful of this. Although smartphones have made mobile browsing a cinch, companies now need to ensure that their websites adapt. Meaning, if a company’s site isn’t responsive then it is highly unlikely that users will stick around. After all, a good user experience is what keeps customers coming back for more. If you didn’t have a customer to begin with, your non-responsive website surely deterred them from ever becoming one.
  1. Search Engines like Mobile-Friendly Sites
Back in April, Google changed their search engine algorithm to align with the increasing trend in mobile usage. This change meant that websites with responsive designs were tagged as “mobile-friendly” and took precedence over websites that were in fact not. If you have been holding on to your website as is and have yet to transition to a responsive site, be warned, Google will catch up to you. Especially if you are running an AdWords campaign. My guess is, you’ve noticed your bounce rate increase or remain the same. This will only worsen until you have made the switch.
  1. No Business is Too Small
Any legitimate business, regardless of size, needs to have a web presence easily accessible through a smartphone. If the mood strikes, a customer is going to reach straight for their phones to search. Let’s hope your business is there! If not, the growth of your business and customer base are compromised.

If you are part of the few that have yet to catch on to the smartphone craze, you better hold on tight. This trend is here to stay and is only getting stronger.
